Snow park season starts with Stubai Premiere and special events for freestyle skiers
Had enough of the summer and practising indoors on the trampoline? It’s nearly time to apply your freestyle skills to the snow! It won’t be long now before you can get your skis and snowboard out of the basement and head off for some shredding. On October 22 and 23, the legendary Stubai Premiere kicks off the snow park season at Austria’s biggest glacier skiing area - the Stubai glacier in Tyrol. And that's not all. Now in its eighth year, the event sees several new features and a premiere this year: for the first time, special freestyle skiing activities will be held which really cater to everyone – whether on skis or boards.
Right on time for the 2016 Stubai Premiere, the Stubai Zoo set-up at 3,100 metres on the Gaisskarferner has been revised by Allgäu park designer Schneestern. In particular, enhancement work has been done on the park's pro-line, which is once again proactively supported by DC Snowboarding this year. As usual there are also specially designed lines for both beginners and advanced winter athletes. Regardless of their level, jibbers and slopestyle fans alike are guaranteed to find the ideal obstacles here. Thanks to its location on a south-facing slope and therefore being in the direct sunlight, soft landings from early till late ensure extensive, fun and safe sessions throughout the entire season.
To get the winter off to a great start, not only is the Stubai Zoo presented in top form with a creative and progressive set-up. There are lots of opening extras, too: these include side events with DC Snowboarding, Horsefeathers, Roxy, and Lib Tech as well as a BBQ with bar and DJ sounds at the mountain restaurant Jochdohle. And of course the Brandsaloon once again offers a free hardware test at the Eisgrat mountain station. Here you have the chance to test the season’s latest products with a choice of more than 40 well-known exhibitors from the snowboard and freestyle skiing sector. And the ideal testing ground is right next door in the especially assembled jib set-up. Every day, the Casio FR-100 Photo Challenge also offers five shredders the opportunity to win one of the digital cameras with the “Best Photo Of The Day”.
In addition to shredding, the Stubai Premiere wouldn’t be the same without some good partying – and there’s plenty of occasion for that. The Dorfpub and the Scala in Neustift are open for celebrations on Friday and Saturday.
