Opening event for snowboarders and freestyle skiers at the park at the Stubai Glacier
There could have been no better way to kick off the snow park season at the Stubai Glacier: The brand-new 3S Eisgratbahn gondola went into operation for the first time, the weather was excellent, and the park offered fresh snow and perfect conditions – no wonder the 2016 Stubai Premiere was a resounding success. It was a premiere that was definitely worthy of the name. “The event was a magnificent start to the new season”, said Bernhard Burger of Schneestern, the organiser and park designer. “We were able to launch the expanded set-up of the new Stubai Zoo as planned. And our new idea of putting on a programme for freestyle skiers was very well received.”
With many hundreds of snowboarders and freestyle skiers from all over Europe, it was a full weekend of intense activity at the Gaisskarferner park at an altitude of 3,100 metres, supported once again this year by DC Snowboarding. The Stubai Zoo continues to offer the perfect obstacles to cater for all needs, featuring three different lines for snow athletes at beginner, advanced and professional level. There was also a broad selection at the Brand Saloon which was set up over the weekend at Eisgrat mountain station, where more than 40 well-known exhibitors from the ski and snowboard sector presented their latest hardware for testing purposes. The products themselves attracted big crowds and so did the side events at which partner companies offered top-quality prizes galore: the two-day Casio EXILIM Photo Challenge and the two celebrity-hosted sessions – “DC Best Line hosted by Sebbe de Buck” and “Lady Laps by Klaudia Medlova & Horsefeathers” – not to mention the “Horsefeathers Hit the Tank” contest. Visitors were able to round off each day’s action in relaxed, wild or entertaining style by attending an evening Roxy Yoga session at the Body & Soul StuBay or with parties and film premieres at Dorfpub and Club Reverze. The weekend was brought to a perfect conclusion with the Sunday rail session “Jib the Lip by Lib Tech”.
The successful launch event got the season off to a great start at the Stubai Zoo. The who’s-who of the international freestyle skiing and snowboard scene get together to train at the Stubai Prime Park Sessions from 29th October to 25th November: this is where the pros prepare for the upcoming competition season in Austria’s biggest glacier skiing area. The season itself gets underway immediately after this with a European Slopestyle Cup and an AFP Bronze Event as part of the Stubai Freeski Open from 25th to 27th November.
And the date has already been set for the ninth Stubai Premiere in 2017, too: shredders and jibbers should be sure to mark 21st to 22nd October in their calendars.
