SportScheck is showing its true colours by making a long-term pledge to social responsibility with its “Sport im Hort” project. SportScheck has been getting kids moving since the 2008/2009 school year. It is working closely with the Chair for Sport and Health Promotion at Munich Technical University (TUM) to develop an exercise concept specifically for daycare centres and after-school care clubs. Three after-school clubs in Munich are already receiving € 5,000 each in sports funding. The aim is to foster children’s natural urge to be physically active and encourage them and the staff to exercise more.

The SportScheck OutdoorTestivals 2009 are an exciting opportunity for sports enthusiasts to discover and try out new outdoor activities. Offering the latest equipment, guided tours and useful workshops, the events will take place on two weekends in late August: the first in Thale in the Bodetal Valley in Germany’s Harz region (21 – 23 August) and the second in Arco in Italy (28 – 30 August). The festivals will give young and old the chance to try out the sport outfitters entire outdoor range, check out the latest trends and receive advice from professionals.

From its corporate headquarters in Munich, SportScheck – one of Germany’s leading sports outfitters with currently 14 stores – can look back on a successful business year. From March 2008 to February 2009 the Otto Group subsidiary increased its revenue by 3.3 percent to € 306.1 million. Sales in the retail stores were up to 10 percent and the mailorder business enjoyed healthy growth as well. The online business reached more than 20 percent, continuing the trend for double-digit increases in this area.
