Cheese dumplings, roast pork, salted and smoked meats: the Pongau region is home
to all kinds of mouth-watering local delicacies. And of course, these taste even better
when enjoyed high up in mountain restaurants like the Gamskogelhütte and the
Bodenalm. These restaurants aren’t just for skiers and boarders: they’re also perfect
for guests simply in search of sun and relaxation. Rustic and welcoming, the
restaurants are quick and easy to reach by cable car from Flachauwinkl or
Zauchensee. Holidaymakers can relax on sun-drenched terraces and take in stunning
panoramic views of snow-covered slopes and summits. For guests who prefer to stay
in the valley, the Arena Alm restaurant in Zauchensee's World Cup skiing arena offers
hearty traditional cuisine and a cosy eating nook next to an old-fashioned tiled stove.
A stress-free arrival on the slopes is now a reality, thanks to the two new ski lifts at
Zauchensee, the skiing paradise. From Flachauwinkl, right next to the Tauern
Autobahn, an 8-person gondola and a 6-person chairlift whisk guests straight to the
heart of the resort. Located in the south of the state of Salzburg, Zauchensee has an
impressive pedigree and has previously hosted the Alpine Ski World Cup event. And
with its new valley station, fully refurbished Bodenalm restaurant and inviting choice
of slopes, Flachauwinkl now adds real flair to this popular winter sports destination.
This winter Zauchensee is sure to once again surpass its reputation as a competition level ski area with exceptional service and charm to spare. A new training centre. Plenty of good snow. Tempting all-inclusive offers. The traditional world cup skiing location of Zauchensee offers perfect conditions for unforgettable winter breaks.
The romance of alpine skiing in a mountaintop refuge far from the madding crowd. Contrasted by all the glamour, thrills and spills you’d expect from intoxicating World Cup competition. Plus a full programme of spectacular events: this is Zauchensee. Where you’re almost spoilt for choice. Cradled by the Salzburg mountains, the region is steeped in skiing tradition and really does have everything to offer. Snow in plenty, the glory of mother nature – and a list of events as long as your ski pole.
The date is already in his diary: 15/16 December, Zauchensee Ski Opening. By then,
Jack Frost will have made his welcome winter contribution: plenty of snow, scattered
across the whole of the Salzburg region. Of course he’s always greeted with a smile –
by visitors using the women’s ski shuttle; by the Zauchensee “page boys”, charming
the guests on the slopes. But the area is known for more than its personal service:
Zauchensee is a dream location for skiing, blessed by its high location and climate. In
fact to regulars, it is the location for the annual ski opening.
Time to follow in the tracks of the world’s skiing elite – in Zauchensee, through the
“chicane”, over the “hunter’s leap” and down the “wax run”. What better place to try
out world cup skiing for yourself than the very slopes where ex-world champion
Michael Walchhofer learnt his trade? For almost the entire 2007/08 winter season, the
world-famous Gamskogel is open to all-comers in original, pristine condition.
Winter sport should not become hard work. So that the fun factor on the ski slopes is
written as large as possible and the effort involved is as small as possible, the
Zauchensee ski area offers a unique services package this winter.
