100 years of HOLMENKOL: consistent path to a sustainable future with the Nordic and touring ski waxes
On the occasion of its anniversary, HOLMENKOL presents a fluorine-free powder as a new product in the FF wax series 05.12.2022
The company was founded in 1922 by Dr. Max Fischer near Stuttgart. Not only was the world’s first ski wax developed with the birth of HOLMENKOL, but the foundation stone was also laid for a company that it is impossible to imagine skiing without. Thanks to HOLMENKOL products, cross-country skiers and ski tourers are well equipped for every situation. For the 2023/24 winter season, HOLMENKOL presents Syntec FF1 Powder, a high-performance powder primarily for Nordic competitive sports. And it is, of course, fluorine-free. At the same time, the Natural Skiwax line is even more sustainable thanks to the new formula and packaging.
The HOLMENKOL company was born out of a passion for winter sports in 1922. The basis for a unique product was created with the world’s first ski wax developed by the founder Dr. Max Fischer. Winter sports enthusiasts all over the world still benefit from the innovations of the company based near Stuttgart, which has since developed into an all-season expert. In addition to ski products, the company also sells bike and textile products in over 50 countries. Every step the company takes is first and foremost influenced by sustainability, because HOLMENKOL is not only about sporting enjoyment for the athletes, but also about responsibility.
Fluorine-free in racing: new powder for the FF collection
The company is taking the consistent path of sustainability not only because of the strict regulations that have applied to the use of fluorinated substances since mid-2020. The development of environmentally-friendly ski waxes began many years ago. HOLMENKOL has been offering a completely fluorine-free wax series for competitive sports with its FF wax series since winter 2021/22. The FF stands for “fluorine-free” and therefore not only fulfils all the regulations of the international ski associations, but also guarantees perfect conditions for competitive athletes on the cross-country ski run without any added fluorine. For example, the Syntec FF 21 Bar is a high-performance base wax based on a new fluorine-free formula. What mainly sets this wax apart is its wide range of applications and how extremely long it lasts. The Syntec FF Bar YLW, RED and BLU fluorine-free racing waxes are ideal alternatives to high fluorine waxes. With their different areas of application, the three versions of the high-performance waxes enable the perfect competition conditions in any snow and weather conditions.
In addition to its well established liquid waxes, HOLMENKOL is now also focusing on ahigh-performance finish powder in the FF collection. The Syntec FF1 Powder offers increased speed and acceleration for skiers, even without fluorine. At the same time, it has a very high abrasion resistance even over longer distances and is highly dirt repellent. As with the liquids, the powder is available in the three familiar YLW, RED and BLU versions, which are made for different temperatures.
Even more sustainability in the Natural Skiwax line
Another new product highlight for the 2023/24 season is the Natural Skiwax Bar, which is being launched on the market for the first time in uncoated paper packaging and can therefore be easily disposed with the waste paper. The organic hot wax bar is perfect for all bases, whether it’s cross-country skiing or touring. It embodies the company’s environmental philosophy not only because of the ecological paper packaging, as the new wax formula is based entirely on natural materials, with an upcycled material from sugar processing and raw materials based on rice wax and beeswax.
Legendary 3 Schuss in limited centenary edition
HOLMENKOL's founder, Dr. Max Fischer, changed the market for ski waxes with the development of the 3 Schuss in 1948. Based on synthetic raw materials, the liquid could be used to wax the base of skis depending on the weather situation and temperature. So athletes were perfectly prepared for all conditions. On the occasion of HOLMENKOL’s 100th anniversary, the 3 Schuss Liquid YELLOW, RED, BLUE is available as a liquid wax in a limited centenary edition. The all-round product is characterised by its easy and quick application. The liquid is applied to the base using a special fleece and polished with Finish Cork after a short drying phase.
